FaceBook Pages vs. FaceBook Personal Accounts

Working with a few clients recently I have found some common questions regarding the use of FaceBook in regard to personal pages and business pages. Since this is an area that can be confusing, to say the least, here is some explanation on the use of these.. (more…)

How to get a Custom FaceBook URL for your FanPage

A few people have asked me … “How do I get to choose my FaceBook URL for my FanPage?”

Since its a common asked question, I figured it would be appropriate to share with you how to do this.

There is one requirement in order to designate your FaceBook Fan Page (some people call it their business page) URL and that is you must have at least 25 fans. Once you have 25 fans, its very simple to do:

Go to: http://www.facebook.com/username

*if you have multiple ‘pages’ that you are an administrator of, you will use the dropdown to select the page you want to assign a URL to

Then type in the box to the right of the dropdown what you want to appear after www.facebook.com/ for your URL … so, if you type “VisionToPresence” you are searching for the availability of a URL that looks like: www.FaceBook.com/VisionToPresence.

If your choice is available, a box will come up asking you to confirm and most importantly explaining that this CANNOT be changed. Setting your FaceBook Fan Page URL is a permanent action.

Once you confirm, it’s done!

What is it worth to you?

A custom designed website with a content management system (worpdress), image gallery, videos, blog, calendar, events and milestones, and unlimited pages … Imagine this for your child to replace the dusty, unfinished scrapbook or journal hidden in the attic?

Something that will be available forever, and never lost or ruined. Water and sun cannot damage or fade it! No matter if grandma lives across the street, or across the country, she can admire and brag about her grandchild with ease.

Unlike other template-based options, I’m talking about a custom design. You tell me what you want on the website and you’ve got it! The uniqueness of your child will be shown through the design of the website. You’ll fill out a short, simple questionnaire and then we’re on our way to developing a custom website for your child.

Think about all of the money and time you put into keepsakes, mementos, and scrapbooks. I paid close to $100 for a blank baby book for each of my children. That did not include the pictures I had to print as well as the stationary and paper supplies to make it look nice … which by the way, neither are finished. How about yours?

To yours, your family, and your child’s delight; what is a custom website for your child worth to you?

Please reply and let me know what you think so I can develop the best solution!

… AND, stay tuned as I am working on developing my children’s and can’t wait to show them to you!

What’s a Domain Name?

I find myself explaining this often to people …. What exactly is required in order to have a website? How do you get a website address and an email address? How does everything get put together and how will people find my site?

I’ve decided to do several blog posts hopefully to help explain things, at least to a small degree, and help you on your way to better understanding the process of what is required for the launch of a website.

First up ……. Domains (more…)

Google Chrome Inspired Me

Many people have been sharing on Facebook the Google Chrome advertising videos “It Gets Better” and the Daddy Diary “Dear Sophie.” This couldn’t have come at more perfect timing for me as I have recently mentioned to my husband the need to write in my children’s books more diligently and frequently … You see, I have a diary for each of them which I try to write in memories, the funny things they do and say, achievements, put in photos, etc… Busy life leads to lack of time for me to get out the hidden treasures (the books) and secretly write in them. I don’t want the kids to know about the books until they’re older. As many of you can relate, who has the time? I probably have about 4 loads of laundry that have to be folded right now! (more…)

Who Am I?

What does your title mean to you? … or, more importantly – what does it mean to your future clients and customers?

As I am building and growing my website administration business, I am indecisive as to what I should call myself … Really, I am not one much for fancy titles, however, past work experiences have proven to me their importance in the place of business.

I am aware that your title speaks to your place in the company which you are affiliated with … to your control and decision making power as well as to your knowledge, experience, and value.

So – what am I? I haven’t quite figured it out yet, so if you have input, advice, words of wisdom, or anything to share, I’m all ears!

Is Christy Farris of Vision to Presence the … owner, principle, president, founder, manager, CEO, expert, website guru,  … ?

Marketing inspiration from my brother

20110324-090459.jpg

What does your website design say about you? What does your website design translate in terms of key factors potential clients may pick up on? Are you professional? Are you organized? Up to date with current technology (even if you’re not in the web industry?) I think any business with the potential for sucess would need to answer YES to these basic questions …. However, beyond that, what does your website design say and translate as an initial impression of you, your company, and services? Whether you are a one man shop working out of your home “office” or a large corporation with hundreds+ employees, your online presence and image means a lot … Especially today!

Just recently I was explaining to my much younger brother that “back in the day” people didn’t even have cell phones … Gosh I remember as a kid when my parents had a car phone which was a contraption as large as a suitcase and looking back on memories brings me to a chuckle to think we actually used those things! LOL. My brother, a young boy, was imagining intellectually (very intently) what life would be like without cell phones and this made me realize, though some may still consider devices such as cell phones ‘luxaries’ they really are necessities in keeping up with life in the year 2011. When was the last time you saw an operational pay phone AND had change to put in it?

Importance of Relationships in the Web Industry

20110318-094617.jpg

Today I have really been thinking about the importance of the relationship I have with those I work with in the web industry such as graphic designers, programmers, and web hosting providers to name a few. I thought, gosh if I didn’t have an extensive network of reliable, high quality service providers who are experts in their niche field(s) would I even have a chance in this industry… Or, even more, would I want to offer MY services in an industry where I had no one I could trust or depend on? Probably not.

do uPad the iPad?

I’m a windows girl … Really, I am!

But for various reasons I need an efficient way to access the safari browser on a regular basis. We’ll, Did you know MACs are sooooo expensive? Ugh!

Then, I got an email from Best Buy marketing $100 off the iPad ( first generation)! That’s pretty good, considering that takes the price down to $399 … My husband pushed and pushed, the more ‘trendy’ of the two of us and I got one … And now I wish I would have gotten one a long long time ago!

How cool is this thing? Well, I’m not sure i can out it into words.

For starters, I am blogging on the couch, eating girl scout cookies (shhh don’t tell) watching a movie with my son who has fallen asleep on my lap… I’m basically laying down and there is NO way I could be using my laptop right now. But, iPad? Yes!!

I haven’t even began to research all the available apps and features as there as just so many cool things! The battery is phenomenal – I downloaded Mega Mind for my son and he watched it 3 times and I still had well over 50% batter life left (the movie is over an hour and a half, not to mention all the emailing I did before and around his viewings).

And, for the frustrating ‘mac’ things I don’t have patience to figure put or learn, I just discovered the GoToMyPC iPad App that allows me to fully, 100%access my windows 7 Super-machine desktop via my iPad. Seriously, what more could you ask for?

I love this thing sooo much, I just wish I listened to my husband SOO much earlier and purchased one a long time Ago … Thinking of the productivity and time lost just kills me!

I am a very hard person to impress and the iPad has me impressed! I encourage you to take one for a spin drive …. I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Do uPad the iPad … Whatever that means? I for one know I do!
